The Government of Odisha has initiated a high-level enquiry into the tragic stampede that claimed the lives of three devotees near Gundicha Temple in Puri on June 29, 2025.
Ordered by the Home (Special Section) Department, the investigation is being led by the Development Commissioner-cum-Additional Chief Secretary, Anu Garg, to determine the circumstances leading to the incident during the revered Rath Yatra festivities.
The stampede, which occurred amidst a massive gathering of devotees, has raised concerns about crowd management and safety protocols at one of India’s most significant religious events. In response, the government has called upon the public to assist in the investigation by sharing any relevant information, including video footage or eyewitness accounts.
Individuals or organisations with evidence are requested to submit it by July 20, 2025, either in person at Lok Seva Bhawan, Bhubaneswar, or via email at [email protected]. Public hearings are scheduled to take place at the State Guest House in Bhubaneswar on July 9, 2025, from 3:00 PM onwards, and at the Special Circuit House in Puri on July 10, 2025, from 3:00 PM onwards.
